My Voice Your Voice Women's Voice
I moved down from the North six years ago, and though I had some friends in London, I wanted a place where I could meet other women. A friend told me about Kairos in Soho and 'Women's Voice'. I started to attend the sessions whenever I could and was interested in the variety of the topics chosen for discussion.
After a couple of years of being involved in KiS I started to facilitate Women's Voice once a month. I enjoyed (and still do) meeting and greeting the diverse women who come through the door. To me this diversity is one of KiS' strengths.
I was particularly struck one time when an older woman shared her experiences of being a lesbian in the 1950s. The younger women where amazed at how different life was then for women who loved women.
As a facilitator, I have seen many women come to KiS - and yes, some of them are looking for 'Ms right', others for friendship, and many others a safe space where they can share ideas and life experience and gain strength in a sense of community. Everybody who comes seems to be looking for something, which is not being offered by the traditional 'scene'.
Sometimes I am amazed at the depth of sharing and creativity, which emerges in the space, and I am grateful that such a place exists, a place where women's voices are heard, listened to and affirmed.
Topics include meditation, creative writing, personal development and spirituality and are listed on the web site. If you are a woman reading this who has not yet ventured out to Archer Street on a Tuesday evening, then why not try it? You never know you might still be involved in KiS six years down the line!
