Another great Friends Event this year with over 100 people attending.
This year’s beautifully candlelight event at Bush Hall focused on recent developments in the journey to develop a new LGBT Community Centre (working title: the Identity Building). The project is currently in feasibility stage, funded by Westminster City Council and co-managed with KiS.
The evening saw the introduction of the consultants who have been employed in the process to deliver the feasibility study, 21st Century Era Ltd (the developers of the Tate Modern) and Sheppard Robson (International architects) and a summary of progress to date.
Consultation was then held around the 4 key component areas of the development. (See the Identity Building Consultation Brochure, pdf opens in new window) using interactive voting technologies. Described by one attendee as "making the serious bit fun!"
Cllr Alastair Moss spoke positively of his and Westminster City Council’s support for the project.
Superstar Sarah Waters kindly read from "Tipping the Velvet" and also from her new novel "The Little Stranger". Jay Bernard (up and coming poet) interviewed Sarah with fantastic artwork in the background that Jay had produced specially for the event.
Later, musical entertainment was provided by the beautiful songstress Jennifer John (of Sense of Sound fame) and the diva himself, David McAlmont.
The real delight of the evening though was the diversity of all attending, making it a truly sparkling event. Thanks to all who attended.
Thanks for the support of:
Shaftesbury Plc, Gendered Intelligence, Hudson Interpreting Services, Ingrid Pollard Photography, Jollof Pot, Ella’s Bakehouse, Naughty and Nice Cakes Development Trusts Association, Mark at Inneventive and Bush Hall.
A very big thanks also to:
